Flights canceled across the US due to winter weather

Airlines are facing travel delays due to intense storms that hit the eastern half of the United States. Over 1,200 flights have been canceled, with 4,700 flights delayed. The situation has improved from Friday, but airports in the Midwest and Northeast continue to experience significant delays. Michigan’s power outage has caused Detroit’s Metropolitan Wayne County airport to delay 40% of outgoing flights, while Buffalo Niagara International airport has canceled 60% of its flights. Airports in Denver, Boston, and Chicago also face holdups. These delays add to the challenges faced by airlines after the grounding of Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. United and Alaska Airlines, the primary users of these aircraft, have canceled the most flights. Both airlines have suspended all flights on the Max 9 planes until mid-January.
